GBA JOURNAL / GETTING STARTED

Starting badminton as an adult beginner

Adults can arrive with very different goals: learning a new sport, enjoying regular play or improving existing habits. Sharing your goal helps the coach guide your starting point.

Make it practical.

Be honest about your badminton experience and availability. Join a suitable batch and allow yourself time to learn unfamiliar activities. Compare your current understanding with your own earlier sessions rather than with someone who has played for years.

Your session checklist

  • Ask about beginner-friendly batches.
  • Choose a schedule you can maintain.
  • Request clarification when a drill is unfamiliar.

A useful next step

Reflect on whether the program supports the kind of player you want to become.
