Be honest about your playing experience
Explain whether you are completely new, play occasional doubles or are returning after a break. Knowing the difference helps the team discuss a suitable group. You do not need to know every stroke name before asking for coaching.
Set a skill goal for the first month
Choose a modest learning goal, such as understanding the racket grip, making cleaner contact or remembering the service position. Ask the coach how to practise that skill during class. Trying to change every part of your game at once can make feedback difficult to follow.
Compare coaching with casual court play
If your aim is to learn technique, ask what guided coaching covers. If you mainly want games with friends, ask separately about court membership or playing arrangements. Confirm availability and what is included; access to a court does not automatically include instruction.
