Ask what readiness means in practice
Discuss which skills the coach wants to see before a player changes groups. Ask about consistency, understanding instructions and experience in practice games. Interest in tournaments is useful context, but it does not by itself establish readiness for advanced training.
Understand the training commitment
Find out the proposed schedule, attendance expectations and the kind of practice involved. Consider school or work commitments and travel before agreeing to an intensive routine. Ask how feedback is shared so the player understands what to work on between discussions.
Discuss events without expecting guarantees
Ask which academy activities or competitions may be appropriate and what preparation is required. Confirm entry arrangements, eligibility and any associated costs when a specific event is proposed. Coaching can provide a learning pathway, but tournament selections, medals and rankings should never be assumed.
